Two podiatrists have relocated their shoe store to a central Hamilton location — in search of more foot traffic.

Island Sole, which opened its doors 5½ years ago, has moved from Gorham Road to 26 Church Street.

Business partners Stuart McIntosh and Natalie Bennett are both podiatrists at Bermuda Podiatry Centre, and are passionate about not just selling shoes, but also ensuring they are comfortable.

When the opportunity presented itself when this site in the heart of town became vacant, the pair decided to take it.

“We have always wanted to be more centrally located, so when this location became available we were happy to make the move,” Mr McIntosh said. “There is a lot more foot traffic in this location and that will translate into an increased awareness of our business and what we have to offer.”

Island Sole is the exclusive retailer for Vionic footwear, a leading comfort brand. Mr McIntosh mentioned that the brands are generally sourced from footwear companies based in New York, California and a couple European brands.

“All our shoes are sourced by us as podiatrists, and combine the latest fashions with elements of comfort and support,” Mr McIntosh added.

“In recent years comfort has become an integral part of fashion footwear. Even the most dedicated high heel fashionistas are demanding comfort from their footwear.

“We are providing an attractive and comfortable alternative to the run-of-the-mill high street pumps.

“We also stock a good selection of men’s footwear which also incorporates comfort with the latest trends and fashions.”

Island Sole is also planning to expand its buying into Europe.

Mr McIntosh said: “We will be attending more fashion and trade buying shows in Europe, in order to continue to provide the best available to footwear to the Bermudian public.”

The business hours are Monday to Friday, from 10am to 6pm, and on Saturday, from 10am to 5pm.
