IP is clearly of fundamental importance to the sports industry, both in terms of protecting hugely valuable sports brands but also in terms of providing protection for content and tools to the industry to protect such rights.

According to a Forbes article published last year,1 during the past decade, the value of the ‘Fab 40’ [the world’s most valuable sports brands 2017 as determined by Forbes] has increased nearly 200%, three times more than the stock market [the S&P 500 Index].
