Plans to boost Belarus’ agricultural exports to $7bn by 2020

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Maria Klimova, deputy head of the main directorate for food processing at Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Ministry, voiced plans to increase the country’s agricultural exports to $7 billion by 2020 at a seminar on innovative technologies and food processing equipment, BelTA has learned.
“Plans have been made to boost the agricultural exports to $7 billion by 2020, up 1.5 times versus 2015. This is an ambitious goal, but we have the potential to achieve it,” Maria Klimova said.
In 2017, Belarus supplied agricultural products to more than 80 countries: the EAEU, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, South and North America. Dairy products were sold to 44 states.
“Excluding the intra-EU trade, Belarus was the world’s third-largest butter exporter in January-October 2017. The country was among the leaders in the export of cheese (4th place), nonfat dry milk (5th), and whole milk powder (7th), ahead of the USA,” Maria Klimova stated.
Dairy companies have been working on certifying quality systems. Eight organizations have been certified to sell products in the EU, 36 milk processing companies have obtained a permit to export to China. Moreover, 17 dairy companies have got Halal certificates. Belarusian companies regularly take part in international and regional expos and fairs.
The research and practice seminar on innovative technologies and food processing equipment is taking place at the Institute of Meat and Dairy Industry. The event has brought together representatives of the Agriculture and Food Ministry and Belgospishcheprom Concern, specialists of Belarusian dairy and brewing companies, international manufacturers of food processing equipment from Russia, Czechia, Poland, and Italy. The seminar is meant to discuss the experience in the introduction of innovative technologies which helped the companies optimize the manufacturing process, reduce recycling costs, start making new products, get competitive advantages, and augment the production efficiency in general.
