Sephora North America President and CEO quits to take on top job at Lululemon
Sephora is on the hunt for a new President and CEO for its North American division after Calvin McDonald was announced as the next CEO for athleisure brand Lululemon, according to a report published by WWD.
While the LVMH-owned retailer casts around for the ideal hire, the role is being fulfilled by an operating committee comprising six members, led by COO Satish Malhotra.
Industry analysts note that the successful candidate will need to be a visionary to beat off competition both from other specialty retailers, such as Ulta, and growing D2C brands, such as Glossier and could well be recruited from a tech background.
“This whole world [Sephora has] owned of innovative, omnichannel beauty retail is now being assailed on all sides. They need somebody in that spot who can envision what the model will look like over the next two to three years,” Wendy Liebman, CEO of WSL Strategic Retail told WWD.
